 Energy Tax Credits. The amount of the tax credit for energy depends on what you buy. The law allows a credit of 30% of the purchase price for all the improvements in energy efficiency of your home up to $ 1,500. This applies to improvements such as replacing windows, adding insulation, installing air conditioning systems and energy-efficient heating. In addition, some systems, alternative energy, wind turbines and solar water heaters may be eligible for a tax credit on energy consumption by 30% to cover the costs of the equipment without any limit.

The law also establishes tax credits for certain energy plug-in electric vehicles, low-speed vehicles with two or three wheels. Characteristic of these vehicles is 10% of the purchase price and up to $ 2,500. And these vehicles must be purchased after February 17, 2009

In order to check qualifies specific products you can visit the U.S. Department of Energy's EnergyStar Web site. Meanwhile you can check the IRS website for qualification guidelines for alternative energy systems.
If you have any claim about energy tax credit, you must complete IRS Form 5695 with your tax personal income.

Many states tax credit for energy or incentive programs for energy efficiency and renewable energy. to select your state and see what other credits may be available for you on your state return  you can visit The Database of State Incentives for Renewables and Efficiency (DSIRE) website.

If you made improvements in energy efficiency of your home during 2008, you may be eligible for tax credits to save money. The installation must be completed in the year 2008 to be eligible for these credits. Or if the improvements involved a new home construction or complete remodel the use of the improvements must have begun in 2008. Some of these improvements include exterior doors, insulation , a qualified water boiler, a metal roof and  a main or circulating fan.

President Obama signed the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act on Feb 17, 2009 to implement new energy tax credits and  jumpstart the economy. Thousands of people have taken benefit of the act to earn tax credits and upgrade to energy efficient products. The 30% materials rebate are the most important parts of the energy efficiency plan. The rebate was increased by the plan from $500 to $1500.

There are a few limitations to the energy efficient products types that you can apply this credit to. Installation costs are covered for HVAC (Heating, ventilation, and air conditioning), Solar Panels, Geothermal Heat Pumps, Fuel Cells, Water Heaters (solar included), Wind Turbine Systems. And it not covered for Windows, Roofs, Geothermal Heat Pumps, Insulation.

The Energy Star website is the best way to further educate yourself. Just plug in your zipcode and it should be able to point you to what types of renewable energy tax rebates and incentives are available for you.
Another good thing to look is at your utility. There is some of information made local to your area. If you live in a state that is spearheading the renewable energy movement like California, Connecticut, Texas, or New Jersey there may be even more incentives that will help you heavily subsidize your initial costs. The planet is in dire need of clean energy and prices are incredibly affordable.
