Global Warming Articles

Global Warming Articles. Due to an increase in the volume of carbon dioxide in the earth, has made it hotter. Large amount of carbon dioxide have been produced due to the burning of fossil fuels and non-renewable resources such as natural gas, coal, oil shale, crude oil, petroleum, etc. Scientists discovered that burning fossil fuels leads to a high degree of air pollution in the earth. The combustion of fossil fuels results in a high proportion of noxious gases such as carbon dioxide, carbon monoxide, nitrogen dioxide, sulfur dioxide, etc. to be emanated into the atmosphere. These poisonous gases have an adverse impact on the ecology and the climate of the earth.
An acidic kind of rain popularly called acid rain happens when such toxic gases dissolve in and form a mixture with rainwater. The surfaces of architectural splendors can be eaten by this acid rain.
The earth’s temperature is rising because of the greenhouse effect. Carbon dioxide, methane and water vapor from burning of fossil fuels well-known as greenhouse gases. The greenhouse gases give out and absorb infrared radiation. Greenhouse gases trap the heat and elevate the temperature of earth. The hot air causes snow capped mountain peaks to thaw and glaciers to melt. If the heat is very intense, ice and snow of most massifs around the world will melt very fast. The melted snow and ice will flow in streams into rivers and then into seas thus causing rise in sea levels. Seas will overflow onto and inundate the land, meanwhile the rivers will swell. Besides a global deluge, extreme weather patterns, such as floods and droughts, violent storms, heat waves and cold waves will happen.
Another aspect that precipitates global warming that causes an unusual increase in the amount of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere is deforestation.
Our planet is protected by ozone layer from the direct and unforgiving ultraviolet (UV) rays of the sun. it is eaten by chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs) or freons and bromofluorocarbons or halons that are produced by our manufacturing industries.
The Fact of Amazon
The Amazon river basin covers approximately 40% of the South American continent and contains the largest rainforest on Earth. The Rainforest of Amazon is located within eight countries, Brazil contains 60% of the forest, with Venezuela, Colombia, Peru, Suriname, Ecuador, Guyana, Bolivia and French Guyana containing the rest.
As a natural reservoir of genetic diversity, the Amazon forest contains the largest and most species rich tract of tropical rainforest that exists. It is about thirty-percent of Earth's species available in Amazon. About 90,000 tons of living plants can be exist in one square kilometre of Amazon! It can be considered that one in five of all the birds in the earth make the rainforest as their home.
A tropical rainforests covered as much as 12% of the Earth's land surface a few hundred years ago, but nowtoday the figure is less than 5%. The Amazon river basin is the largest stretch of rainforest-over half of which lies in Brazil.
The rainforest produces enormous amounts of oxygen and acts as a major store of Carbon. Because of its affect on the climate, the Amazon has been referred to as "The lungs of the Earth". Through the process called photosynthesis, by which green plants/trees use the sunlight energy to produce food by taking carbon dioxide (Co2) from the water and air and then converting them to carbon. The by-product of this process is oxygen.
